Reserves report: QPR 1-4 Palace

By Ben Waite

The Crystal Palace Reserves soared past QPR on Sunday afternoon with Charmaine True on hattrick form!

Charmaine True continued her phenomenal goalscoring form, bagging a hat-trick as Crystal Palace Ladies Reserves ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in a dominant display against QPR Ladies Reserves at Silver Jubilee Park.

Crystal Palace survived an early flurry of corners before fashioning the matches first real opportunity when Amy Sinden’s header from 12 yards out was blocked by a QPR defender.

Charlie Goad then forced a terrific save from Gillian Kasiyre in the QPR net after stealing the ball to run through on goal in the sixth minute.

After beginning to dominate proceedings, Palace took the lead in the 16th minute and it was no surprise to see the dangerous True notch yet another goal in her golden boot charge. A delightful through ball from Jade Keogh sent True clear and she made no mistake with a low right-footed effort into the bottom corner.

Goad then saw a cross cut out by the QPR defence after a terrific piece of skill sent her free down the left-wing.

A flurry of chances followed for Palace with True seeing a first effort saved before firing another shot off the post in the 22nd minute.

Palace continued to threaten and forced the QPR ‘keeper into another good save in the 26th minute after Mia Lockett went through on goal.

Keogh was next to go close, volleying wide from a corner in the 32nd minute.

Palace somehow couldn’t add to the lead in the 36th minute when a corner was cleared directly onto the post before a second corner was headed wide by Lockett.

The lead was finally doubled in the 38th minute when some neat footwork on the edge of the box saw True one-on-one with the ‘keeper, and the striker made no mistake for her and Palace’s second of the match.

Crystal Palace went into the break with a two-goal lead after a thoroughly dominant display was rewarded with two strikes from Charmaine True, making it three consecutive goal-scoring appearances in 2019 for the striker.

QPR began the second half with their most encouraging spell of play, but some organized Palace defending kept them at bay following a goal-mouth scramble from a corner.

After weathering the QPR storm, Palace hit back in stunning fashion and when the ball fell to True on the edge of the box, there was only ever going to be one outcome. The number nine’s curling effort found the top corner for a sublime hat-trick and the crucial third Eagles goal, eight minutes after the re-start.

Palace added a fourth in the 61st minute with True turning from scorer to provider this time. Quick passing between the striker and Keogh on the edge of the box set up the latter for a shot and she made no mistake with her low drive into the bottom corner.

Lockett nearly added a fifth moments later when she reacted quickest to a free-kick, touching her volley agonizingly wide of the near post.

Palace continued to control the tempo of the match with sharp passing around the back providing the foundation for an assured performance in possession.

Against the run of play, QPR grabbed a consolation goal 10 minutes from time when Axelle Courlander nodded in at the back-post from a dangerous in-swinging corner.

Despite the goal, QPR didn’t truly threaten to mount a come-back as Crystal Palace claimed a well-earned 4-1 victory to continue the Eagles push for the title at the Silver Jubilee Park.

Goals: True 16, 38, 53; Keogh 61.
