CPLFC U14 Reds 5-1 Woking Cougars
The game started with the Reds on defence with Charlotte and Millie being put to the test. After four minutes of constant defending the Reds began to push up. A mighty kick from Lorna gave Adenya a chance for goal, but there was no luck as it hit the cross bar. Another attempt came shortly after from Laila M, but not enough power behind the ball allowed an easy save. Team captain Laila pushed defence forward after skilfully retrieving the ball from the Cougars with a close goal in hand. A throw in from Millie to Nobantu allowed another close opportunity for Laila M.
The Cougars tried to fire back shortly after but a timed interception from Laila B once again stopped this from happening; a quick spin and pass to Laila M gave her the opportunity she needed to score. 20 minutes in and the score was 1 – 0. It was back to the centre with Cougars ball, but a snatch from Adenya straight into the back of the net moved the Reds in a good position.
Mia also came close to scoring not long after but Cougars keeper was not allowing this to arise. 10 minutes to half time and Matilda came on, with help from Charlotte and Katie a close shot from Matilda was in sight but this was quickly diverted as the ball was swept from her feet and headed down to the Reds goal. It was a close goal from the Cougars as the ball slipped from Rosie’s hand to the post. Rosie redeemed herself with a brilliant save from corner kick that followed shortly after. With minutes hanging on to the first half, a throw in from Laila B permitted Laila M to run down the wing and shoot, ending the first half 3 – 0.
The beginning of the second half had both teams juggling back and forth as they both battled to gain possession, but it was the Cougars who nearly won the mini battle as they attempted to score. After four minutes of back and forth Amani got the ball rolling again with a brilliant shot which hit the crossbar, giving Esme the chance to get the rebound and shoot past the keeper’s feet. 10:49 and the score was 4 – 0 to Palace.
Cougar’s corner was no match for Esme as she jumped in and ran down the wing and passed it to Mia but not enough power gave an easy save by Cougars keeper. Charlotte and Isla continuously defending and pressuring Woking gave Esme, Katie and Matilda further chances to shoot, but the keeper was doing her best to not give in to the Reds. Back down palace’s end the Cougars tried to get a comeback but Amani and Nobantu was on to them, passing straight to Charlotte she ran down and attempted once again. More shots came from Adenya and Laila M but once again not enough power behind the ball left the keeper to save them at ease.
With a few minutes left, the Cougars were adamant to score at least one goal, with sheer determination they swept around Reds defence straight past Rosie. Back into play and the Reds had sight for one more goal. Adenya pushed through to pass to Amani, bombing down the wing Amani took the last opportunity to shoot. A success ended the game at 5 -1 to the Reds.
