First victory of 2015
The Blues registered their first win of 2015 with a hard fought victory against Colne Valley.
With a very hard pitch to play on due to overnight frost the Blues started slowly and it was Colne Valley who had the better of the early exchanges and could possibly have taken the lead had it not been for some brilliant defending from the Blues.
Slowly the Blues started to gain control of the game and took a deserved lead when Caloe converted a chance from close range. The lead was doubled shortly after when Ellie volleyed a goal kick straight back over the keepers head to give the team a 2-0 lead.
Keeley extended the lead with a contender for goal of the season. Picking up the ball in her own half, she beat four players with some tremendous skills before rolling the ball past the keeper.
H/T Colne Valley 0 Blues 3
After a half time team talk from manager Joe Fazzino that focused on the desire to firstly get the three points and secondly keep a clean sheet, the Blues attacked the second half with a renewed determination.
Leading scorer Sarah added another two to her tally for the season and Keeley added another from close range late on.
Further chances fell to Natalie and Martha which didn't find the net but it was a good performance all round by the team who remain unbeaten in the league this season.
After the game Joe said, "It was vital to pick up the three points today and I'm proud that's what we managed. Defensively we were sound all game with Hera, Amani, Amy, Syd and Maisie battling all game to ensure we kept a clean sheet. The midfield duo of Ellie and Emma were amazing all game, providing defensive quality when needed but also pushing on to create many chances. Natalie, Keeley, Sarah and Caloe were as always a thorn in the side of the opposition defence and looked dangerous throughout the game. There will be tougher games to come but as always my girls are confident and will battle to the end to secure the league title that we all so desperately want.”
