Palace motor past Brooklands
We welcomed Brooklands Ospreys, from the home of British Motorsport, to Orpington for our first game at that venue since November of last year.
We also welcomed back Grace into the defence, joining Anya and Rose, after a couple of months out through sickness.
After a fairly even start, we soon moved into gear. The first chance fell to Rebecca from a great cross from Katie. Unfortunately, their goalkeeper made a great save and kept the score even.
We had a number of other opportunities but we could not seem to put them away.
Our first goal came after a good stop from Ellie, who played the first half in goal. From her clearance, the ball fell to Rebecca who went on a strong run. Rebecca passed to Brooke who put the ball past their goalkeeper. 1:0 to the Palace.
There was good work in midfield with some neat play from Ella who put together some great passing moves. Rhianna was also putting a lot of effort in, ensuring that the opposition were put under pressure and Ellen, playing in a deeper midfield role, worked hard to snuff out any Brooklands attacks.
Our next goal was scored by Brooke again who received the ball from Rhianna in midfield, went on a trademark mazy run and shot low and hard into the goal to make it 2:0.
The whistle blew for half time and some changes were made to the team. Natalina made her debut in goal and Blythe played a role as an attacking midfielder.
The second half started and we were slowly starting to dominate the game, Anya done well to keep the ball in defence and played out a pass to Rebecca who used her speed and strength to get past the defence. She sent off a low and hard shot to get her second of the game to make it 3:0 to us.
Our next goal came from Brooke who received the ball from Ella and shot past the goalkeeper to make it 4:0.
Brooklands did have some chances but the returning Grace did not show any sign of rustiness and together with Rose, Anya and Ellen kept the opposition at bay. Natalina was doing well in goal and made great clearances.
Brooklands did score one goal, and it was a well taken low shot that Natalina could do nothing about to make the score 4:1.
Rebecca did get her second of the game when she found herself unmarked in the penalty area and made no mistake with the finish to make it 5:1.
The final whistle went and it was an all-round good team performance. From our hard working defence to our even harder working midfield of Ellie, Katie, Rhianna, Blythe and Ella as well as our forward line of Rebecca and Brooke.
The result meant that we moved to 3rd in the league so well done to all of the girls.
