Honours even against Kingstonian Youth
We made the journey back over to Kingston to where it all started for the Whites back in mid-September of 2014.
There was a slow start from the Whites this week as we struggled to get our passing game together although the defence of Rhianna, Grace and Ellen were keeping Kingstonian at bay.
Carmela showed some good handling skills when needed but we struggled to get the ball from midfield to our attacking force of Natalya and Brooke.
We went behind to well worked goal from the opposition. This seemed to stir us into action and the midfield of Rebecca, Ella, Katie and Rose started to feed more passes to our forwards.
Brooke showed great determination after a forceful run. The opposition goalkeeper did well to parry a shot from Brooke but our top scorer managed to get possession back and put away a shot for our equalizer.
Shortly afterwards there was a defensive mix up which allowed the opposition an easy shot on goal to make it 2:1.
Half time came and after a stirring speech from our stand in coach and some tactical changes which saw Anya introduced in defence and Katie in midfield, we managed to get back into the game with a brilliant goal.
Brooke took the ball in midfield and started a jinking run on the right. She looked up and saw that Ella was unmarked and hit a pinpoint cross which Ella headed first time into the goal to make it 2:2.
We started stretching the Kingstonian midfield on the left hand side and Rebecca was unlucky with a powerful shot that the goalkeeper did well to save.
We also had a number of corners where we had chances to take the lead, only for Kingstonian to clear the ball.
And then with 20 minutes to go we took the lead. Rose got the ball in a deep position on the right hand side of midfield beat a player and then spotted that the goalkeeper was in an advanced position. She unleashed a shot from outside the penalty area which found the back of the net to give us a 3:2 lead.
We had more chances to extend our lead but Kingstonian found a new lease of life. There were a series of corners and from a well worked one of the left side of the pitch they managed to put the ball past Carmela do make it 3:3.
The final whistle went and overall, a draw was a fair result against a very spirited and talented opposition.
We’ll look forward to meeting up again in May.
