Crystal Palace Blues 0 AFC Wimbledon Blues 2
The 2015/16 season came to an end for the Blues in a defeat against old friends and foe AFC Wimbledon but the performance given deserved more out of the game than the team got.
The Blues started the game in determined fashion and they set their stall out early as the hassled and harried AFC in to making early mistakes.
As always in these games the first goal is crucial and it fell to AFC after the Blues missed countless chances to clear the ball and it fell to the AFC forward who scored from close range. A second goal nearly followed but Rosie made a brilliant reaction save to push a header past the post.
Undetered by the set back the Blues flew forward and began to create chances. Sarah flashed a cross across goal , Amani warmed the hands of the opposition keeper with a shot from outside the area and Keeley went on a mazy dribble , taking on player after player but just couldn't manage to get the final shot away.
H/t Blues 0 AFC 1
The battle continued in the second half with both teams playing to the peak of their abilities which produced a wonderful spectacle for the watching crowd.
AFC grabbed the all important second goal with a close range header but with twenty minutes left anything was possible. Again the famous Blues spirit shone through and the team launched wave after wave of attacks in a desparate attempt to get back in to the game.
Emma whipped in a corner from the right which saw Tay fire a shot on goal only to be saved by the keeper and another Emma corner shortly after saw Ellie send a powerful header goalwards only to see it blocked on the line.
Sophie , Martha , Anna & Chelsea all began to play some incredible football in midfield and it felt like a Blues comeback was on the cards but the goal never came. Syd was unlucky not to fire a shot on goal late on and Sarah had the last chance of the game but fired just wide.
After the match manager Joe Fazzino said "This game sums up our season really. We were in the game for so long but just couldn't quite force the goal that would have made the difference. Having said that it has been a season of many , many great memories. Our comeback against Kingstonian in our first ever Premier League game , the performance against QPR where we took them to their limit and of course our victory over the Reds will remain with me for ever.
My girls never take a backwards step. I've had girls today who have really stepped up in their level of play. Rosie , Anna & Martha put in solid displays , the midfield were awesome and the front two always are a threat. I've had to ask my captain Ellie to fill in at centre back today and she's thrown herself in to the role and alongside Tay produced a briliiant display.
Our group have had an amazing three years and let's hope we get many more seasons to come"
