A cloudy day welcomed us as we entertained Meadow Sports at Hillside.
Our first game against our opponents in November proved a tight affair and this game certainly started that way with few clear cut chances for either side.
But the deadlock was broken in the 10th minute. Gracie put in a great corner and Lucy connected well to guide the ball past the Meadow Sports keeper to make it 1:0 to the Whites.
But just 4 minutes later Meadow Sports capitalised on a defensive error and got a goal to level the scores.
And just a few minutes afterwards Meadow Sports got their noses in front to make it 1:2 to the visitors.
Shortly before half-time, The Whites pulled a goal back – Emily from a well worked corner – to make the scores 2:2.
Half-time came and went and the second half was much like the first, some chances for both sides, Lara came close following a great cross from Rebecca whilst Rebecca herself came close when she hit the crossbar from long distance.
But Meadow Sports got in front again following a good break and shot to make the score 2:3.
And that’s how the game finished. It was a great game and both sides gave everything that they had.
Coach John Leith said afterwards:
‘I can’t fault the effort that our girls put in but today, Meadow Sports played well and got the win that they deserved.
It was a well contested game and we wish our opponents well for their remaining games.
Well done to Rhianna who played her first game of the season.
And thanks also to Jay who not only provided us with a great pitch, especially with all the rain that we have had, but also referred the game excellently.’
