Rss Feeds

What is an RSS feed?
An RSS feed is a special document designed to keep you informed when a website such as this one has added new content. They are meant to be read by computers and not people, which is why if you click it, you may see text and symbols which don't make a lot of sense. They are usually linked to with an orange icon like this:

Once you have chosen a News Reader you just need to copy and paste into it, the URL for the feed you want to subscribe to:

    Why should I use them?

They allow you to keep up to date with changes on a range of websites without having to visit each website in turn, saving time and making sure you don't miss content you may be interested in.

    How can I use them

To take avantage of RSS feeds you need a news reader. There are web-based ones (generally free), that allow you to keep up to date on your favourite websites from any computer, or there are software news readers which you need to install. Also, some web browsers such as FireFox and Safari allow you to subscribe to feeds directly.
