CPLFC 3. V. 1 Abbey Rangers. League Match
On a bright sunny Morning in selsdon the girls entertained Abbey Rangers in the last league game of the season for both squads.
From the first moment everyone started to arrive you sensed a very laid back, chilled atmosphere as another long season was coming to an end.The Abbey manager was sunning himself in Barcelona so Kathleen (his wife) stepped in to manage the side but thankfully still brought along their impressive unfolding subs bench to make us all envious one last time.
The game started quite evenly with both sides creating a few chances with both keepers confidently dealing with things.Within the first 10 mins the eagles had 2 girls down( Emily and Elle),both having taken the ball full pelt in the stomach but being 2 of the tougher characters in the squad they were soon back up and running. The breakthrough for Palace came with a low cross by Elle being turned into the abbey net by the abbey defender and Hannah who both met the ball at the same time.1-0.
Shortly afterwards Mia L drove a low cross in from the left which was again deflected in by the same defender who had to be comforted by the assistant manager for Abbey before coming back on to the pitch being greeted by applause and encouragement by both sets of supporters. 2-0.
The third goal arrived shortly afterwards with another good turn by Elle to fire in pass the Abbey goalies desperate dive.
Half -time 3-0
The 2nd half continued in the same fashion with Palace just edging the game but Abbey having a few good chances of their own to keep Rebekah on her toes in Goal. The Eagles had chances to finish the game off completely but were guilty of snatching at chances when a bit more composure would have seen the scoreline a lot bigger. In the final 5 mins Abbey got a consolation goal curtesy of a dubious penalty which the Abbey striker confidently smashed into the top of the net. The game ended 3-1 to the Eagles in an enjoyable finish to the season. The Girls will now finish 3rd in the League in what has been a very competitive season of Football.
Full time 3-1

Managers comments
A Good win to end our campaign for this season.Abbey always give us a good competitive game played in the Right manner by both squads. With our County Cup Final next weekend this was a good match to end on.Finishing 3rd was not our target for the season but drawing 4 league games this season has been the difference and with a bit of luck and a few important decisions going our way it could have been so different. The Girls have been excellent all season and well supported by their family's .I feel the girls are ready to move into 9 a-side football next season and with the new additions hopefully added at the trials in a few weeks time we will be ready for the start of the new campaign.
I feel it fitting that our last game at 7 a-side should be the County Cup Final next weekend against our old foe Croydon in what will be another super competitive match with both sets of girls knowing each other so well by now.
