BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE – WINS LEAGUE CUP IN ADDED TIME
Sunday 28thAPRIL 2013
Ascot United FC 2– 3 Crystal Palace under 16 Girls FC
Wonderful Cup Final ends with a Palace win in the last kick of the game. Palace Girls played some excellent football against a very good Ascot side who would not lie down, even when 2-0 behind. Both sides started brightly with Ascot creating the better of the chances in the first 10 minutes with our back three of Monika, Toni and Rebecca having to be very sharp in breaking down their play. However it was Palace who took the lead after a couple of corners the ball broke to Rinsola who floated the ball in for De to head downwards and into the corner 1-0.
Palace were really on top with Kirsty and Chloe linking up really well and Olivia, Aiyana and Rinsola doing the same, the team were up for it and you could see and feel that this squad really wanted it today. Albeit Ascot were still dangerous and Becky did really well to clear the ball off our own line after Larissa was beaten. Both sides were playing good football and both defences were holding firm, Brook was also playing her part in midfield, challenging for everything in the centre of the park. Palace had a number of corners as did Ascot with Aiyana doing a really good job on the near post defending.
At the other end Chloe had a couple of good efforts from distance and De and Rinsola were well tackled on the edge of the area, so we went in at half-time 1-0 ahead.
Half-time 1-0
Whatever was said at half time seemed to spur the Palace girls on and in the third minute Rinsola passed to Jenna on the edge of the area, she took it on her knee and turned in one movement beating the defender and struck the ball beautifully with her right foot and into the net 2-0. For a period we were totally on top but could not find that third goal and with twenty minutes left Ascot scored 2-1 and very much game on. Our defence looked stretched with Lydia and Amaal having to work really hard with Monika and Toni, in stopping the charge by Ascot to score again. Olivia, Hannah and the rest of midfield had to stand up and be counted with Larissa making one excellent full length save to keep the score at 2-1.
However it was Palace who nearly grabbed a third, Rinsola breaking from the half-way line with only the keeper in front of her, taking the decision to shoot the keeper made an excellent save.
Laura came on for Larissa and as Larissa looked very assured with her around the box, with less than a minute to go the unthinkable happened with Ascot scoring a second 2-2 with extra time having to be played.
Full-time 2-2
Extra time, with both teams pushing on and looking for that next goal, the whole team looked up for it and lots of battles were being won, either at the back in the midfield and up front. You could see they did not want to lose and a monumental effort was put in by the team, however penalties looked a real possibility. This was not to be and in the dying seconds Rinsola has beaten her player and passed across goal, De has tried to get to it and it breaks for Aiyana who makes no mistake and scores, unbelievable celebrations follow this with the whole team and substitutes in a heap in the middle of the pitch.
Great achievement Charles, all your dedication and hardwork has achieved this result and Bobbie for all his work with our Goalkeepers, plus all the training sessions with Kenny and Alfie partly paid off in one afternoon. However it is the girls who have achieved this result, well done Captain Chloe and your Team.
Squad: Amaal, Aiyana, Brook, Chloe (Capt.), De, Ester, Hannah, Jenna, Kirsty, Larissa, Laura, Lydia, Monika, Olivia, Rebecca, Rinsola, Toni.
Next game: Away at AFC Wimbledon 1st May 6.00pm kick-off

Manager's Comment: Extremely proud of the way the girls executed our game plan that had been set out by the Manager and Coaches and also in how they applied themselves to the hard graft, a side of the game which is required against a team like Ascot.
