Bill Nighy Appearance at Bromley High School

Friday 17th May

On Friday May 17th, Bill Nighy attended Bromley High School to share some of his experiences in theatre and film to an audience made up of members from the Palace Ladies and Bromley High School communities. The event was being run to help raise funds for the Under 16 Crystal Palace Ladies trip to California, USA in July.

Sue Tibbles, the chief executive of the Woman in Sport Fitness foundation spoke about trying to encourage and keeping girls involved in sport, and reiterated the importance of this evening and the work undertaken by Palace Ladies, not least, the plans of the Under 16s.

The squad will fly out to California in July and experience the benefits of participating in soccer training at Santa Clara University whilst experiencing what is required of students for completing a university education. This is a unique opportunity for all the girls and is now even more feasible thanks to this event and the support of the audience.

Bill captivated the audience’s attention and managed to make both the younger and older members laugh at the same joke! He has been in many films, TV and stage productions and has enjoyed a very successful career, including, of course, his role as the giant squid in Pirates of The Caribbean.

After hearing several humorous stories, with the questions asked by the interviewer Miranda Sawyer, columnist writer for The Observer newspaper, Mr Nighy took questions from the audience who were still buzzing from his humour! His pleasant manner in taking the questions with the answers he gave reminded the audience that this was his job, and one that he really enjoys. This was highlighted when he relayed the story of when asked if he was “feeling the part”, he answered “No I don’t tend to feel it, IT’S MY JOB” A great piece of advice for aspiring actors!

A special thanks must be given to Charles Baylis for the organising of the evening which I am sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed, and to Bill Nighy himself for giving up his time, to support the tour and Palace Ladies, with whom part of his decision to support the club, was based on it being a "cool thing to get involved with".

Bill showed his support, generosity and class as he mixed with the audience forpictures and autographs. A fitting end to the event.

If any donations wish to be made please make a cheque payable to CPL USA Tour and they will be greatly appreciated.
