Abbey Rangers 1 v 1 Crystal Palace Reds
With Abbey Rangers allocating us a 1-45pm KO the u13 Reds travelled down to chertsey on a surprisingly pleasant Sunday afternoon. With the Match being delayed another 15 mins due to the game before Running over both squads were left kicking their heels waiting to lock horns.
With the game finally kicking off the early exchanges were evenly matched.Palace were trying to play their familiar passing game and were unlucky on a few of the early exchanges with dangerous crosses running harmlessly pass the abbey Goal.Abbey had a clear game plan which first involved their impressive Gk launching early throws out to their striker on the half way line hoping to catch the eagles napping. The 2nd plan was to launch Delaney like throws into the box at every opportunity hoping to make something happen and it was with one of these throws that they nicked the lead with the Eagles fouling to clear their lines and a Abbey player hitting a scuffed shot which rolled into the corner of the Eagles net.Whilst its not the prettiest sort of football the direct long throws were causing the Eagles problems and Abbey were trying to play to there strengths being the the physically bigger side. With this set back Palace started to put more pressure on the Abbey defence with one shot from Rebecca smashing the crossbar and a few scrambles in the Abbey box ending with the defence desperately clearing their lines. In between all this Abbey were creating chances of their own but the Eagles defence were stopping any more hiccups occurring with the impressive Shola having a solid game at Centre back.
HALF-TIME 1-0
With the half time team talk, the girls were challenged to show how badly they wanted to succeed in this division and with Maya coming on for Mia L for the restart they took the game to Abbey and wave after wave of attack were now putting the increasingly desperate Abbey team under pressure.Midway through the half another attack ended with the Abbey keeper coming our and mis kicking her clearance for the grateful Rebecca to roll into a empty net.The eagles deserved their equaliser and were now pushing for the win their second half dominance required and corner after corner were now being fired in.With a mixture of rushed finishing and good defending Abbey were keeping the Eagles at bay and even a switch of formation with India coming back on up front to join Rebecca Palace still couldn't get the breakthrough. When Abbey did break away frustratingly the Ref was giving Abbey generous free kicks in dangerous areas with the help of the vocal Abbey contingent but luckily these came to nothing with at one stage the mighty Elizabeth blocking a fierce free kick to confirm that she wasn't letting her opponents have a second goal against the run of play. The Ref blew for full time with the disappointed Palace girls having to settle for a draw in a game dominated for large periods of time.
FULL TIME 1-1
MANAGERS REPORT
Another frustrating day for the girls. We are trying to teach them to play the beautiful game the right way and they look to move the ball all the time which is great for their development as players.Today we came up against an improving Abbey side who like to play direct football with a clear game plan to launch long throws into our box at every opportunity to unsettle their smaller opponents. This did result in a goal for them but the final score was decided by the girls not taking the chances their superior football was creating and as we all know Goals win matches!
Its disappointing to drop 2 more points but there is plenty to come from this squad and I'm confident we can close the gap on the teams above us.
Unlucky today Girls,Another strong performance, especially in the 2nd half where you were unlucky not to take the 3 points home.
